Story

From Cramped to Centrepiece: A Kitchen That Works for the Whole Family

This kitchen wasn’t just due for a renovation. It needed a complete rethink. From the moment the owners moved in, they knew the layout had to change. It was cramped, awkward, and barely fit two people at once. There was next to no bench space, the rangehood blocked access to appliances, and storage was minimal. It made everyday cooking a chore and hosting guests even harder.

The design process was thoughtful and collaborative, with the client having a clear visual goal in mind: shaker-style cabinetry, a generous island, and an appliance cupboard to keep clutter at bay. After several layout iterations, the turning point came with the decision to remove a dividing wall between the two lounge rooms. What was once a segmented, disconnected floor plan opened into a large, light-filled space where the kitchen now serves as the heart of the home.

Practicality was key, from drawer-based storage at bench height to well-placed power points, including on the island. The Laminex benchtops were a deliberate and informed choice, offering the clean look of stone with greater durability and none of the worry about stains or chips. Every detail was planned right down to the existing waste points, avoiding unnecessary slab cutting and keeping the process smooth.

Delivered just before Christmas, the kitchen became the centrepiece of family celebrations. It’s not just easier to cook in. It’s somewhere to gather, chat, and cook side by side with the kids. Friends and family regularly compliment the design, the finishes, and the transformation as a whole.

It’s a renovation that changed how the home functions and feels, and one the clients are proud to show off.
